Questions people ask about Mount Juliet
Mount Juliet is a Wilson County city due east of Nashville on Interstate 40, and the two things that define it are Providence and the lake. Providence is the retail and dining district built off the interstate interchange — it is where most of the shopping in eastern Wilson County happens. On the south side, the town touches J. Percy Priest Lake, with boat access and shoreline parks.
It also has something almost nothing else around Nashville has: a commuter rail stop. The WeGo Star runs the Nashville-to-Lebanon line and stops here. If a train instead of I-40 appeals to you, that is a real differentiator; if you want a historic downtown square, Mount Juliet is not the town that has one.
Orientation: Wilson County is directly east of Davidson County, and Mount Juliet is its western end — the first town out of Nashville on I-40. It is a separate city with its own government and school district, and it sits between the Nashville line and Lebanon, the county seat.
What tends to surprise people is how much of the town is newer. Mount Juliet grew fast and much of the housing stock reflects that, so you will see a lot of subdivisions built in the last two decades and comparatively little pre-war housing. Green Hill, the Nonaville area and the neighborhoods around Providence each have a different feel; walk them before you decide.
About 25 to 35 minutes to downtown Nashville. I-40 west is the default and it is a straight shot, but the Donelson-to-downtown stretch is where morning traffic stacks up.
The alternative worth knowing about is the WeGo Star commuter train, which runs from Lebanon through Mount Juliet into downtown on a weekday schedule. It does not fit everyone's hours, but it is a genuine option that most Nashville suburbs cannot offer. Lebanon Road and Old Hickory Boulevard are the surface fallbacks when I-40 is stopped.

What's changing in Mount Juliet
Updated October 2026A 175-acre master-planned, mixed-use district on the south side of I-40 at Central Pike is being built as Mount Juliet's next town center, alongside a planned new interstate interchange.
Providence Central is among the largest projects reshaping Mount Juliet: a 175-acre master-planned, mixed-use development on the south side of I-40 at Central Pike, just west of South Mt. Juliet Road. Per the developer's site plan, the PUD is entitled for roughly 2.6 million square feet of commercial space (office, retail, restaurant and hotel sites ranging from 2 to 20 acres) plus approximately 800 residential units spanning multi-family, senior housing and single-family homes. The site has about 3,700 feet of frontage along I-40, 2,900 feet on Central Pike (State Route 265) and 6,100 feet along Providence Parkway (provcentral.com; Cumberland Advisors).
The development is being led by Cumberland Advisors, with joint-venture partner Nicol Investment Co. delivering the first residential piece. In July 2021 the partners broke ground on the Enclave at Providence, a 296-unit Class A apartment community (eight buildings) that began leasing in summer 2022 and finished in 2023. As part of the work, Cumberland Advisors funded the extension of Providence Parkway south to Central Pike as a five-lane spine road with 7-foot sidewalks and a 10-foot walking trail (WKRN; Nashville Post; Cumberland Advisors).
A key piece of public infrastructure tied to the corridor is a new I-40 interchange at Central Pike, designed as a diverging-diamond interchange (DDI). TDOT added the project to its 2026 10-Year Plan and estimates it at about $93.5 million; in May 2026 Mount Juliet secured a $24.6 million Federal Highway Administration grant toward the interchange and related road widening, including widening Central Pike from two lanes to five between the future interchange and Mt. Juliet Road. The grant carries a federal condition that construction begin by 2029, and right-of-way acquisition is planned for 2027 (Fox17; NewsChannel5; Main Street Media of Tennessee). TDOT's project page lists preliminary engineering as underway, with construction scheduled for fiscal year 2029 for the interchange and fiscal year 2030 for the Central Pike widening (TDOT).
A separate sizable project is underway nearby: the McFarland development at 5224 Old Lebanon Dirt Road, a 110-acre mixed-use community by developers Amit and Tulsi Patel (Tulit Investment) that broke ground March 28, 2025. Plans initially called for 300 apartments, 184 townhomes, 175 single-family homes and 35,000 square feet of commercial space, with first single-family residents originally projected for the first quarter of 2026 and full buildout estimated around 2030. Meritage Homes now lists its McFarland Farms single-family community as coming soon, with a sales office on Nell Lane. In May 2026, Scottsdale, Arizona-based Alliance Residential purchased roughly 10 acres within the McFarland site and filed plans for a 312-unit 'Broadstone' apartment community (Phase 1C) with about 18,000 square feet of commercial space; the revised master plan now totals as many as 674 residential units at full buildout (184 townhomes, 175 single-family homes and 312 apartments). For relocating buyers, these projects matter because they indicate where Mount Juliet's commercial activity and new housing supply are concentrating, along the Central Pike/I-40 corridor, and because the planned interchange and road widening are intended to change commute access in that part of the city over the next several years (Main Street Media of Tennessee; WKRN; Meritage Homes; Land Advisors Organization; REBusinessOnline).
Mount Juliet's dining and retail scene has expanded along the North Mt. Juliet Road, Lebanon Road, and Golden Bear Gateway corridors, with grocers, bakeries, drive-thru coffee brands, and locally owned restaurants opening between 2024 and 2026. Newer developments including Legacy Pointe, Citi Station, and Everette Downs account for much of the activity.
